Lynmouth Sea Sauna

Rules, Regulations & Safety Information

Your safety and enjoyment are our priority. By entering the Lynmouth Sea Sauna, you agree to follow these rules and use the facilities responsibly.

Before You Enter

  • You use the sauna at your own risk.
  • Please consult your GP before using the sauna if you are pregnant or have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, epilepsy, respiratory conditions, diabetes, or any medical condition that may be affected by heat.
  • Do not use the sauna if you are feeling unwell, have a fever, are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or are taking medication that may impair your judgement or ability to regulate body temperature.
  • Users must be aged 16 years or over unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • Remove all jewellery, watches and metal objects before entering, as these may become extremely hot.

During Your Sauna Session

  • Shower or rinse before entering where facilities are available.
  • Always sit on a towel.
  • Wear appropriate swimwear unless the session is advertised as clothing optional.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking water before, during and after your session.
  • Limit each sauna session to around 10–15 minutes, particularly if you are new to sauna bathing.
  • Leave the sauna immediately if you feel dizzy, faint, nauseous, unwell or uncomfortable.
  • Enter and leave the sauna carefully as benches, door handles and the stove area may be hot.
  • Do not touch the wood-burning stove, flue, stones or fire door.
  • Never place any objects, clothing or towels on or near the stove.
  • Only water supplied by staff may be poured onto the sauna stones where permitted. Do not use essential oils or other substances unless authorised by staff.
  • Keep the sauna door closed to maintain temperature and ensure safe operation.

Cold Water & Sea Swimming

  • Entering the sea is entirely at your own risk.
  • Sea conditions can change rapidly. Always assess the conditions before entering the water.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Be aware of tides, waves, currents and submerged hazards.
  • Cold water immersion carries risks, including cold water shock. If you are inexperienced, seek advice from staff before entering the sea.
  • Warm up gradually after cold water swimming and avoid remaining in the sauna for prolonged periods immediately afterwards.

Behaviour

  • Treat fellow guests, staff and volunteers with courtesy and respect.
  • No smoking, vaping or naked flames within or around the sauna.
  • No alcohol or illegal drugs are permitted on site.
  • Food and glass containers are not permitted inside the sauna.
  • Mobile phones, cameras and recording devices should only be used with the consent of everyone present.
  • Children must remain under adult supervision at all times.

Fire Safety

  • The sauna is heated by a wood-burning stove.
  • Only authorised staff may operate or refuel the stove.
  • Never interfere with the fire, stove or ventilation.
  • Keep all emergency exits clear.
  • Follow staff instructions immediately in the event of an emergency or evacuation.

Hygiene

  • Please shower or rinse after sea swimming where possible before using the sauna.
  • Sit on a clean towel at all times.
  • Leave the sauna clean and tidy for the next guests.

Our Right to Refuse Entry

Lynseals reserves the right to refuse entry or ask anyone to leave without refund if they:

  • are intoxicated or under the influence of drugs;
  • behave aggressively or inappropriately;
  • fail to follow staff instructions or these safety rules;
  • place themselves or others at risk.

While every effort is made to provide a safe environment, use of the sauna and sea is entirely at your own risk. Lynseals accepts no responsibility for injury, illness or loss resulting from failure to follow these rules or from the inherent risks associated with sauna bathing and sea swimming.
